Uçansu Waterfalls are one of Antalya’s best-kept secrets.

This isn’t a place people visit for cafés, souvenir shops, or waterfront promenades. They come here to experience genuine, untouched wilderness. Surprisingly, many Antalya residents have never been here themselves.

The name Uçansu translates as “Flying Water.” As the stream plunges from the sheer cliff, it appears to float through the air before finally reaching the ground.

Height and Origin

The main waterfall drops approximately 50 meters (164 feet).

Its waters originate high in the Taurus Mountains, fed by the snowmelt from the Akdağ and Geyik mountain ranges. As a result, the water remains remarkably cold even on the hottest summer days—typically no warmer than 15°C (59°F).

Why Is This Place So Special?

Uçansu lies far from Turkey’s busiest tourist routes.

While famous waterfalls like Düden and Kurşunlu attract hundreds of visitors every day, it’s entirely possible to spend hours here without seeing another person.

That peaceful atmosphere is exactly why photographers, hikers, and nature lovers consider Uçansu one of Antalya’s hidden gems.

When Is the Best Time to Visit?

The ideal months are March, April, and May.

During spring, melting mountain snow feeds the rivers, making the waterfall especially powerful.

By summer, the flow often decreases significantly, and during particularly dry years, there may be very little water left by the end of the season.

That is why many experienced travelers intentionally plan their visit in spring.

What Awaits You

  • Crystal-clear natural pools
  • The scent of pine forests and Mediterranean herbs
  • Dramatic limestone cliffs
  • Refreshingly cool air, even in July and August
  • Complete tranquility, broken only by rushing water and birdsong

In spring, the water takes on a stunning turquoise color that contrasts beautifully with the pale limestone rocks.

A Touch of History

Ancient roads once passed near these waterfalls, used by the inhabitants of Pamphylia, one of the most important regions of the ancient Mediterranean.

Today, the famous St. Paul Trail runs nearby—one of Turkey’s most scenic long-distance hiking routes, connecting mountain villages, ancient ruins, and spectacular natural landscapes.

Helpful Tips Before You Go

  • Wear shoes with good grip, as the rocks near the water can be extremely slippery.
  • Bring drinking water and snacks, since there is almost no tourist infrastructure in the area.
  • If you decide to swim, be prepared for very cold water—even in summer, it’s more invigorating than a cup of coffee.
  • For photographers, the best light comes early in the morning or 2–3 hours before sunset, when sunlight illuminates the mist and creates a beautiful golden glow.

An Interesting Fact

One scientific study identified Uçansu Waterfalls as a location with exceptionally high potential for eco-tourism, thanks to its unique geology, dramatic landscape, and largely untouched natural environment.

At the same time, researchers emphasize that the area should remain free from large-scale development to preserve the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty that make it so unique.
